Everybody knows how important it is to have a healthy-lifestyle, but good moms know that all of these can only start with healthy cooking. Any good recipe will go senseless if you don’t have the right ingredients (healthy ingredients) and a healthy cooking oil to cook them.

To increase awareness of the importance of healthy cooking, JHMCO partnered with Philippine Heart Center since 2013 and had continuously campaigned of the benefits of canola oil in daily cooking.

The Perfect Heart Mate

Last July 28, we were so glad to meet Donita Rose Villarama as she was formally introduced as Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil’s first brand ambassador. It was held at Epicurious which is a restaurant popular for its locally-sourced gourmet food and its Shop-Cook-Eat concept (you shop on their store and their chef will cook them for you). We were just so happy to see Donita Rose, as she is more popularly known from her MTV and That’s Entertainment days, wearing a bright red and yellow outfit, bursting with personality and charm.

fb 1As soon as she entered the kitchen which was set-up for the event, we were sold on why she was the perfect mate for the brand. She definitely knew what she were doing as if she could manage to cook even with her eyes closed. See this short video taken during the event how she managed to prepare three delicious dishes in a very short time while being interviewed and talking about her life experiences.

Donita started her culinary journey with a degree in Culinary Arts from The Academy for International Culinary Arts (AICA) in 2012. She practiced her craft first at The Crowne Plaza Hotel Manila and shortly after her graduation, moved to Las Vegas where she focused on the hot kitchen of different cuisines like Italian, Japanese and even gourmet Filipino, catering to private events all over the city. Donita was even hired by the world’s largest catering group, Compass Group, where she was assigned at the headquarters of Zappos and mastered the art of cold food preparation. After several months, she returned to Manila and co-hosted GMA’s Basta Every Day Happy with Chef Boy Logro. Donita also wants to study next Molecular Gastronomy or the science of food on a molecular level.

Donita’s Tips to Moms About Healthy Cooking

During the event, Donita Rose told everyone that her cooking style is now geared to healthy cooking, mainly for her kids and her husband who is much into body fitness. We’ve noted some of her important tips for moms when it comes to healthy cooking:

1. Cleanliness is very important when cooking and that this is one of the basic rules of food preparation, that we need to keep our environment, our utensils clean whenever we cook.

2. We should also give importance to our dishes’ presentation. It doesn’t necessarily need to be styled like professionals but arranging them like your cooking gourmet food in a restaurant will definitely boost someone’s appetite and appreciation to the one who cooked.

3. When frying, use a cooking oil with high heat tolerance such as Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil.  This characteristic makes it more resistant to burning thus, you won’t see much smoke when frying and the dish becomes fried and crispy in less time. Burnt food is not healthy to eat and so the perfect cooking oil with the lowest saturated fat content is definitely essential in healthy cooking.
