Jennifer Lopez in this film is a war veteran who had to abandon her daughter to keep her safe from people who would want her dead as revenge. It’s a film full of action from the start and though it’s surprising (if you’ll think this happens in real-life) how JLo keeps her face smooth and unscratched from all the shooting and action-stuff, the fighting, driving and flow of scenes are satisfyingly fast-paced.
First time watching Lucy Paez on screen who played the daughter Zoe. She’s perfect for her role, with her big, innocent eyes. Training a 12 year old in combat can be quite unbelievable, given the timing of the events, but even so, it was entertaining to see how a mother, with genes like that, can really be able to train someone to be good at shooting perfectly in such a short time.
You might need to re-watch the film to fully understand how The Mother got entangled with two antagonists played by Joseph Fiennes (Adrian) and Gael Garcia Bernal (Hector) but may not even need to if you are only after the adrenaline rush and the mother-daughter drama.
Honestly speaking, it’s really amazing how JLo keeps herself fit and buff for these kinds of films but she inspires us all women that everything is possible despite age. This film doesn’t only highlight women empowerment in reality, but also the depths of a mother’s love that transcends career-choices, bone-breaking pain and unbelievable sniper distances.
