Artist Madhouse had an awesome 2-hour Introductory Expressive Art workshops with the Mommy Bloggers and their children last March 13, 2016.
The children enjoyed the Expressive Art and Creative Play session with the theme “The Superhero in Me.” Expressive Art and Creative Play is a holistic program that empowers the child to learn in an encouraging and supportive environment. Through the expressive arts, the child is encouraged to experiment creatively, leading to discovery of new knowledge. Play, being the language of children, fosters healthy interaction with others, enhancing the child’s social skills as well.
The session was started in a super hero play, working together using strengths to overcome a secret mission. The kids were then asked to create their superhero self in a finger puppet and to think of their own superhero story which they will present in a puppet theater with their moms.
While the children were busy doing their finger puppets, the moms had their own “Me Time” through Expressive Art Meditation.
Expressive Art Meditation is the use of meditation and art activities to help people cope with stress and discover more of themselves, through genuine connection to their true self and others.
Jem and Carol started by settling the mommies down through a guided meditation, accompanied by a comforting music. The relaxing visualization slowly freed their mind and body from blockage. Once relaxed, they were given 30 minutes to make art the way they find comfortable. The free-flowing process lead them to connect with their true self. They were encouraged to share their experience in the session as a way of affirming one another and comforting their co-mommies as well.
Feedback from mommy blogger participants:
“Overall, I can say that The Artist Madhouse workshop is a great way to help your team build a strong relationship, your kids to learn the art of team work and as an individual it will help you re-connect with yourself.” Marie Bella San Luis of MamaNee’s Nest
“The artist madhouse provide workshops for kids that enable them to explore arts and crafts through “learning by doing”. In addition, the expressive art meditation allows oneself to reflect, “self-check”, and re-discover our inner being for self improvement. The two facilitators were both competent as well in their field and were very friendly too with the kids.”– Celin Hiwatig Mendoza of MasterMomSpeaks
