Brother Philippines Marks 25th Year with Coastal Cleanup in Batangas to Protect Marine Biodiversity

BATANGAS, PHILIPPINES — As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, Brother Philippines, together with its sister company Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc., strengthened its commitment to sustainability by mobilizing 196 volunteers for its annual Coastal Cleanup in Sitio Calumbuyan, Calatagan, Batangas on June 28, 2025.

The initiative, launched in 2022, is a key component of Brother Philippines’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) program and is conducted in partnership with the local government of Calatagan. This year’s effort successfully removed approximately 160 sacks of trash from the coast, helping protect the area’s fragile marine ecosystem.

Preserving Marine Life Through Collective Action

The coastal cleanup goes beyond immediate waste removal—it also raises awareness of the need for sustained, community-led conservation. By actively protecting marine habitats, Brother Philippines addresses critical environmental issues such as plastic pollution, which contributes to climate change and poses a serious threat to aquatic biodiversity.

This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), specifically:

  • SDG 13 (Climate Action): Taking urgent steps to combat climate change by recognizing the role of healthy oceans in regulating the climate.
  • SDG 14 (Life Below Water): Conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas, and marine resources to protect marine ecosystems from pollution.

A 25-Year Commitment to the Community and the Environment

“Our annual Coastal Cleanup is more than just an event; it’s a tangible expression of our deep-rooted commitment to the environment and the communities we serve,” said Glenn Hocson, President of Brother Philippines. “Seeing 196 volunteers come together reaffirms our promise to create lasting, positive change for future generations.”

The Coastal Cleanup is part of Brother Philippines’ broader CSR portfolio, which includes:

  • The Green Project – Encouraging customers to return empty Brother ink bottles for responsible disposal.
  • Brigada Eskwela – Supporting educational infrastructure improvements.
  • Lakbay Aral – Providing beyond-the-classroom learning experiences for students.

Driving Environmental Stewardship Forward

As Brother Philippines celebrates 25 years in the country, the success of this year’s cleanup stands as a testament to its enduring mission: to protect the environment, inspire community action, and create a cleaner, healthier future for all.
