Mommy Bloggers Philippines Q&A

  1. How long have you been blogging?
  • I’ve been blogging since 2000, and it just served as an online diary of my daily activities as a college student. I talk about the things I like from books, movies, food and the beautiful places I’ve visited. I also share some of the poems and short stories that I wrote in my free time. This phase wasn’t intended for “mainstream” blogging since I wasn’t aware that people do actually earn from blogging. I paused from blogging when I started working in the corporate sector.
  • I came back to blogging in 2011 when my daughter was only 3 months. I opened Moomy Musings to document her milestones for my husband who is working away from home. I began sharing about the baby products that actually works for Noa.
  1. What kept you busy before you entered the blogging industry?
  • I was working for G4S Philippines – a British multinational security services company as a Training and Organizational Development Officer. I was one of the officers in-charge of the Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2008) certification project of two of our guarding companies.
  1. As one of the pioneers in blogging, what made you decide to blog?
  • I don’t think I did not have that “deciding” moment since I have always been a blogger from the start. Rather, what made me decide to come back and do full-time blogging is when I noticed that my website visits are growing in number. I also started receiving emails from companies, both big and starting, as well as emails from other moms who have read my blog post.
  1. How do you think blogging is helping you as a parent? Noa is growing pretty and intelligent. Do you see her as a rockstar blogger in the future?
  • Blogging has helped me a lot because it keeps me on check with my own motherhood. When I blog, I also do some researches before I publish a post. Now, I feel that I don’t only blog for my own pleasure. I feel like I owe my readers the truth to whatever that comes out of my blog. I always think to myself that I am accountable for every word that people read on my blog. I shouldn’t take blogging lightly.
  • Right now, I think it is too early for me to tell if Noa would also be interested in blogging. Well, I hope she does, and if she decides to also open her own page, I will surely be here to guide her.
  1. Any problems you usually encounter in blogging?
  • The first problem that comes to mind involves the technical aspect of blogging especially if you are self-hosting your blog. There’s an art and science to blogging. When you encounter system downtime and people couldn’t access your site or you don’t know the basic troubleshooting as you maintain your site, then you could be in a little trouble. Another potential problem could be those who are sending fake event invites or advertising offers (some don’t even pay), so we should all be careful.
  1. We know how popular you are with PR advertisers. How do you think PR advertising and blogging comes together?
  • I think blogging in the Philippines is starting to become a popular means of advertising one’s product or services. One reason I could think of is it is cheaper than producing a 30-second TVC aired on primetime which could cost you a lot. Nowadays, people are smarter and they are not easily persuaded unless the recommendation comes from people who have actually tried and tested the products in the first place.
  1. Any tips you might want to share our mom bloggers?
  • Always begin with a good foundation when you decide to blog and that is having a purpose. Ask yourself, “Why do I want to blog?” Like what I’ve said, blogging shouldn’t be taken lightly because we are accountable for every single word that we publish online. When I blog, I always ask myself a question, “What could people learn from this post?” Am I just wasting their time? Make sure that your readers enjoy a good take home information or inspiration once they hit the close button. Be as sincere as possible when you write, and always be dedicated to constantly improve in your blogging.
