Finally, we’ve reached the time of the year when most of us can take our much needed R&R (rest & relaxation). The kids are free from school, our vacation leaves already filed, and we are almost finished packing. Though most moms have already perfected the art of listing travel itineraries and organizing luggage bags, there’s one crucial thing that moms and dads alike shouldn’t forget and that is, planning for safety. We all want our vacation to be filled with only good and happy memories so we’ve come up with a printable checklist that moms and dads can review before going to a vacation.
☐ Electrical Items
Avoid fire accidents by unplugging all electrical items except the refrigerator /freezer unless you will be out for more than a week and no food will be spoiled. Don’t forget to check all the switches you have. If possible, count all the switches you have before hand and keep them in mind while you switch them off before leaving your house.
☐ Faucet Control
This is important if you are going to be out for more than a week. Never leave your home without checking faucet controls or you may find your house drenched or flooded when you get back because of water leakages.
☐ Gas Regulator
If you are using LPG in your kitchen, make sure that the gas regulator is turned off. If you are a Solane customer, they can conduct a free 7-point Safety Check which you can avail before you go on a trip. For more information, visit solane.com.ph or call 887-5555 (Metro Manila only) or text (0918) 887-5555 (nationwide).
☐ Pets
If you are leaving your pets, make necessary arrangements for their food and the place where they will stay while you are gone.
☐ Trash
Remove your trash before you move out especially food that can be spoiled or flammable garbage such as tissue papers and dry leaves.
☐ Car
Check your car’s condition (brakes, gas and seatbelts) before you leave home.
☐ Weather
Make a final check on the weather condition, traffic and the news to make sure that your family will have a smooth and safe travel.
☐ Medicines
Make sure that you have a first aid kit or ample stock of medicines that your family members take in if they have allergies or if they are in medication.
☐ Mobile phones
Check your mobile phone batteries and chargers which will ensure that you will have means of communication all the time.
☐ Responsibilities
Last but not the least, talk to the whole family and assign a person who will be responsible for the little ones. Everyone will be more secured if all the members of the family have each other’s back.
Accidents can sometimes happen in the most unfortunate times and these include the times when we expect our vacations to be perfect. But we can still be optimistic because we can do something to minimize the risks. As the saying goes, “failing to plan is planning to fail”. So careful planning and making time to check the minor but important details listed above will be the key to an accident-free vacation time with your family.
