A few weeks to go and summer will officially hit us. And when we speak of summer, most of us parents already know that it’s not only perfect for vacationing but most importantly, a time for our kids to get involved in activities that they will enjoy and learn from at the same time.
Nurture The Gift This Summer
Summer is the best time time to nurture our kids’ talents and special skills. It is in this time of the year when they can truly focus on using their creative juices and energy and still get plenty of time to rest. And because the weather is dry and warm, parents and kids can also enjoy going out traveling to the workshop classes that they will choose to go to.
Summer is also the perfect time for kids to discover their interests. As parents, we can help our kids in this area by asking them about the things or activities that excite them. Do they enjoy singing with you during karaoke times? Do they like to help you when you are scrapbooking? Or do they love to watch plays or musicals? Your kids answers will give you those “aha” hints on the types of classes and summer activities that they can enroll to.
If you see that your kids has great potentials, take advantage of every opportunity when you can help them sustain their interest and nurture their talents. Child prodigies always start out as children with interests. Parents of these children were so keen and supportive of their children that these kids eventually became remarkable in their own fields.
Shaira Luna
A popular prodigy who is now a fulfilled photographer is Shaira Luna. During the launch of Promil IShine 7 Talent Camp, Shaira told the story of how her mother went to great lengths in supporting her in her studies and in her hectic activities as a child prodigy back then who was often seen in television, commercials and in newspapers. *As an infant, Luna reportedly began speaking fluently as early as six months, and can read and write the alphabet at age one. At age two, Luna was already knowledgeable in different branches of science, as well as playing various musical instruments such as the piano and the violin; she began having interests in learning the French and Spanish languages, while she also spoke English fluently.
As the nation wondered about Shaira, her mother industriously documented her activities, making tons of scrapbooks to preserve her photos and newspaper clippings. As expected, Shaira dedicates her growth and achievements to her parents who had been all the way in helping her nurture her gifts.
Esang De Torres
A Grand Winner in Promil Pre-School I-Shine Talent Camp, Esang De Torres gained the title of “Mini Lea Salonga” because of her voice and charm on stage. De Torres joined various talent shows. Her first singing competition was at the age of 4.
Worth Lodriga
Worth joined his first national art competition at the age of six, mom Wendy tells STARweek. The competition was for stamp design and the other contestants were aged 12 and up. Worth started winning international competitions, including the Frogs Are Green International Art Contest 2016 in New Jersey, against 1,441 entries globally; the 2017 Airtime Watertime International Flotation Suit Design Contest in Santa Barbara, California; the 7-Star Artist Award at the Junior Picasso International Art Contest in India; and most recently his piece “Where No Man Has Gone Before” won first place from the Mars Society in Colorado.
The stories of these child wonders has one thing in common: early start and the unending support of the parents. This summer, parents and kids are encouraged to take the first steps in discovering the child’s potential and nurture it.
