ManilaMed Opens New Wound Care Unit

Posted on by

With the onset of technology, many of us often resort to Google and self-medicate when we have illnesses or in this particular topic, when we need to treat a wound. In some cases, we may get lucky that these wounds heal but there are cases when we feel in doubt, confused and anxious of what we are doing, if we are treating the wound or just making it worse. The wounds get infected despite applying topical medications.

In the younger generation, incidents such as motorcyle and vehicular accidents are also increasing and in these kinds of accidents, wound patients usually require special attention and care.

It’s because there are wounds that can be treated with basic wound care while there are non-healing wounds that may not heal due to diabetes, poor circulation, nerve damage or poor blood flow. There are also wounds that require more specialized care and treatment provided by medical professionals.

Dr. Glenn Angelo S. Genuino, Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon and Head of the Wound Care Unit at ManilaMed said, ” What’s important is to take good care of yourself. There are different types of wounds that need different ways of treatment with the appropriate utilization of the latest advanced wound care system and surgical options available.”

ManilaMed’s Wound Care Team is being led by doctors in the field of General Surgery, Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, and Orthopedics, to treat conditions such as minor burns, post-traumatic wounds, diabetic ulcers, vascular ulcers (arterial and venuous), pressure ulcers, radiation ulcers, post-surgical chronic wounds, scar modulation, and scar revision. The Wound Care Unit doesn’t only have the specialists but also the space and the modern equipments necessary to perform treatments for special wound cases. The Wound Care Team though reiterated that the Wound Care Unit doesn’t automatically take in patients in emergency cases. The emergency unit will still have to assess and follow standard procedures for emergency patients and if special wound treatments are necessary, then the patient will be referred to the Wound Care Team.

I considered getting a clinic there, I’m a dentist by the way, but I realized it’s too far from me. But my friend opened her clinic there… it’s nice.

This is good news. Congrats Manila Med.

It’s good to get ahead of scars and know how to deal with them if you want to minimize the lasting impact. Looks like they have a great new unit of people there helping out.

Sounds like a great addition to the healthcare field. I would think that it would save a lot of visits to the emergency room having a wound care place like this.
