Discover Philippines’ Colorful Culture At Lakbay Museo In Manila

Posted on by

If there’s a museum we can truly recommend for families to visit while their children are still young, it will be Lakbay Museo. It’s one thing to teach our children our native tongue and our heritage, and it’s another to let them see with their own eyes how colorful and admirable Philippines is with its of food, history and places.

There are three ways to enter the museum - via Jeep, airplane, or vinta. You can also wear sarong or ifugao robe (borrowed) to complete the ethnic feel. Each guest is being given a set of 12 chips to use in exchange of food samples inside the museum.

The main aspect that we loved in Lakbay Museo was that the exhibits were all so alive, not in the literal sense, but that the whole place gave us that lively energy as soon as we entered the museum. Unlike in other historical and travel museums with no-touch and be-silent policy, this museum was so interactive and guests are encouraged to experience and touch the exhibits and take lots of photos. It’s also a museum where guests are given chips which you can use to “buy” native foods and delicacies and eat them while on tour.

The museum was not that big and you can tour the whole area in less than two hours, but the experience, we can assure you that it will be one of the best travel tours you can make. It’s a place you can be proud of and be happy to recommend to your foreign friends. But most importantly, it’s a place which locals should be aware of, to see the places that we can’t reach even in our own country, to try the foods from other regions we haven’t tasted before, and to know more about our own history.

The museum helps PWDs, out-of-school youths and citizens by letting them be a part of the activities. Guests can sample some of the foods inside the museum.

Just like us,  you will have a grand time looking at the details in each exhibit. The foods look so real! Though we’ve seen better wax figures, we were still amazed with the number and grandieur of the displays in some areas. And you know what, the exhibits in this museum were made from recycled rubber tires, car mats and rubber slippers. That’s what you call Filipino ingenuinity.

We also found out that the museum employ PWDs, out of school youth and locals from the provinces exhibited in the museum. At the entrance, we were welcomed by senior citizens and they danced gracefully some Filipinina numbers. It’s a great advocacy for the museum to help even the seniors to share their talents.

There is more than a dozen reasons why visiting Lakbay Museo should be in your family’s bucket list this year but one of the firsts we should say is that it’s one of the most fun and educational way to bond together.  The experiences you will share won’t expire and the photos you will take together will be priceless. And as you post those photos in your social media, you will inspire more Filipinos and more people around the world to take a closer a look and find how beautiful this country of ours is.

This looks like a great cultural learning experience for your kids. I too like the way they employ youth and elderly.

This is an ongoing event? Is this a permanent feature?

I would love to visit this museum! Not only that it is so interesting and educative, but it is interactive as well. This is the best way children can learn.

This seems like the best museum ever. Every country should have one of these to help tourists experience the true culture of the country.
