Make-A-Wish® Partners with GMG Productions’ “Come From Away” to Support Children with Critical Illnesses

How Is Make-A-Wish Philippines Supporting Children with Critical Illnesses in 2025?

In 2025, Make-A-Wish® Philippines continues to bring hope to children with critical illnesses—this time through the power of theater and community. The foundation has teamed up with GMG Productions for a special staging of the award-winning Broadway musical “Come From Away”, with a portion of proceeds going to help grant life-changing wishes for Filipino children facing serious health challenges.

This unique collaboration brings together compassion and entertainment for a meaningful cause.

A Broadway Musical That Mirrors Real-Life Kindness

“Come From Away” tells the true story of how the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, opened its arms to over 7,000 stranded passengers after the September 11 attacks. Among them were children on a Make-A-Wish flight headed to Disney World—whose dreams had to be put on hold due to the global emergency.

But the townspeople didn’t let that stop the magic. They threw a party for the children, complete with clowns, mascots, and music. This real-life act of generosity inspired one of the most touching moments in the musical and serves as a reminder of how simple kindness can transform lives.

A Special Night of Giving Back

The Philippine adaptation of “Come From Away,” directed by Michael Williams, will be staged on June 27 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati. A limited number of VIP tickets are available, with proceeds directly supporting Make-A-Wish® Philippines and its goal of making 525 wishes come true this year.

“It’s a perfect match of values,” shared Aleah Ortiz, Executive Director of Make-A-Wish® Philippines. “The story of Gander reflects the same belief we hold—that community and kindness can uplift those going through life’s toughest battles.”

Real Stories, Real Impact

Make-A-Wish® Philippines is now in its 25th year and has touched the lives of thousands of children. Recently, the foundation granted the wishes of:

  • Kiv, age 5, diagnosed with a Neuroectodermal Intraabdominal Tumor
  • Betsy, age 13, living with neuroblastoma

Both wished to meet their favorite music group, SB19, and their dreams became a reality.

To further amplify its reach this year, the foundation partnered with COMCO Mundo League of Enterprises, inviting donors, volunteers, and corporate partners to support its 25th-anniversary campaign and help spread the message of hope.
