The 2025 PalawanPay Marathon was more than just a fitness event—it became a symbol of compassion, community, and commitment to public service. Held in Puerto Princesa City as part of the Palawan Group of Companies’ (PGC) 40th anniversary, it drew over 2,100 runners from across the Philippines and abroad.
A Race With a Purpose
The highlight of this year’s marathon wasn’t just the record-breaking number of participants. It was the purpose behind every step. Proceeds from the marathon were used to purchase a brand-new ambulance for El Nido Community Hospital. This initiative addresses a critical need in one of the most visited areas in Palawan, where emergency response has been limited due to transportation challenges.
Rooted in Malasakit, Powered by Community
PGC’s Chief Human Resources Officer Korina Castro-Fernando emphasized the company’s deep commitment to malasakit (compassion), a core value that has guided them for 40 years. “Every kilometer conquered in the PalawanPay Marathon is a symbol of how far we are willing to go to be of service to Filipinos – to Palawenos,” she said.
Strengthening Health Services in El Nido
PGC COO Roberto Ben “Bobbit” M. Castro, together with Dr. Robert Angelo Arrieta and Ms. Rosana Sanoy of El Nido Community Hospital, received the ceremonial key to the ambulance—a Toyota Hi-Ace that will now be used to transport patients in critical situations. According to Mr. Castro, there have been times when patients needed to wait an entire day for transfer to a bigger hospital in Puerto Princesa. The new ambulance aims to change that.
Celebrating 40 Years of Service With a Community-Focused Vision
The PalawanPay Marathon was part of PGC’s “Ikaw Pa Rin ang Number One: Palawan at 40” celebration, reinforcing their longstanding commitment to serving Filipinos with accessible financial services while uplifting communities through initiatives like this.
