DLSZ Builds Safer, Inclusive Playgrounds with E-Sports International to Support Holistic Student Growth

Modern school facilities are evolving—and De La Salle Santiago Zobel (DLSZ) is taking the lead in transforming play spaces to be both safer and more meaningful for young learners.

Enhancing School Playgrounds with Safety and Creativity in Mind

In partnership with E-Sports International, DLSZ introduced the Let’s Play! playground system and Fairmont EPDM rubber flooring across its Alabang and Vermosa campuses. This initiative supports the school’s commitment to holistic education, where academic excellence is complemented by physical activity and social development.

Brother Bernard Oca, DLSZ Brother President, emphasized that well-designed playgrounds do more than entertain—they help children develop creativity, social skills, and resilience.

Custom Playgrounds Tailored to Student Needs

In the Alabang campus, age-specific designs were implemented. Pre-Kinder students enjoy play structures on Limonta landscape grass—perfectly blending with surrounding greenery—while Grade 2 students play on 25mm thick rubber flooring that supports physical play and minimizes injury.

In Vermosa, the playground takes an inclusive approach, incorporating a range of activities such as swinging, sliding, brachiating, and climbing—core movements that support both physical development and early interest in sports. The EPDM flooring ensures safety, durability, and resistance to wear, making it ideal for long-term student use.

Designing for Safe and Active Play

According to E-Sports International General Manager Pamela Romualdez, the goal was to create a space that ignites curiosity while reducing the risks commonly found in traditional playgrounds. The rubber flooring absorbs shock, and all structures were built with child safety in mind—eliminating sharp edges and exposed moving parts.

The Vermosa campus also includes playful details like hopscotch zones and green color themes to reflect Lasallian identity.

FAQ

Play encourages physical activity, social development, and creativity—balancing classroom learning and helping children grow into well-rounded individuals.

What is EPDM rubber flooring and why is it used?
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a non-toxic, odor-free material known for its elasticity and shock absorption. It’s ideal for playgrounds where safety and durability are priorities.

How are the playgrounds designed for different age groups?
In Alabang, DLSZ customized play zones for Pre-Kinder and Grade 2, using appropriate materials and play features. In Vermosa, the design is more inclusive, catering to a wider range of physical activities.
