LUMOS RAY GEN2 Projector Review: Worth buying in 2025?

LUMOS RAY GEN2 Projector Review: Worth buying in 2025?

After trying out the LUMOS RAY GEN 2 Smart Bundle, I can honestly say this has become one of our favorite family gadgets this year. We’ve used it for movie nights, quick hotel getaways, and even some lazy weekend ceiling projections — and it’s been a solid performer overall.

Setup and First Impressions – LUMOS RAY GEN 2

Setting it up was effortless. I placed the projector about 3 meters away from our 72-inch 16:9 projection screen (bought from Shopee), and the image filled the screen beautifully. The auto focus and auto keystone correction are such time-savers — just one click on the remote, and it sharpens and straightens the image automatically. Even if you project from a side corner, the angle correction feature neatly adjusts it back into shape. Occasionally, I still fine-tune manually, but this feature makes setup so much faster.

Using the remote control’s focus adjustment is a nice way to ease your viewing experience.

The brightness is another standout. Even with some daylight coming through the windows in the afternoon, the picture remains clear and vibrant — something most small projectors struggle with. Compared to the earlier LUMOS RAY and LUMOS FLOAT, the RAY GEN 2’s roughly 4,500 lumens output is clearly stronger and more versatile for bigger screens or rooms with some lighting.

Watching Experience and Connectivity

I tested just about everything:

  • The main dashboard and settings
  • USB playback for movies
  • YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video streaming
  • Screen mirroring using my iPhone, which connected easily and worked smoothly

Browsing and app navigation feel fast and responsive — no lag or delay between menus.

Here we placed the LUMOS RAY GEN 2 from a corner and it never disappoints in giving us the right viewing angle. Some few manual calibrating but just for a few seconds.

When I first tried it using mobile data, 1080p playback lagged a bit, which was expected. But when I connected it to a hotel’s Wi-Fi, I discovered it couldn’t access the login page right away. The fix? Simply install a browser app, connect to the hotel Wi-Fi, and type any website (like example.com). The hotel’s login page appears automatically — once logged in, streaming worked perfectly.

The picture quality has improved a lot from the previous models. Colors are livelier, and images stay sharp edge-to-edge. Projecting on the ceiling was surprisingly effective too — just make sure to use a sturdier tripod since the included mini tripod (from the bundle) is more suited for lightweight gadgets.

The ceiling projection looks good with its auto correction features. Now we can lie down and watch in bed.

Sound and Dolby Experience

The built-in speakers sound good — clear enough for casual use — but connecting it to a Bluetooth speaker or wired amplifier makes a big difference. The Dolby audio becomes much richer that way, giving a more cinematic feel to family movie nights.

Perfect for Consoles & Ports

At the back, you’ll find a solid selection of input slots, including:

  • USB port
  • HDMI port
  • AV input
  • Headphone jack (3.5mm)
  • Power input

It’s easy to plug in gaming consoles like a PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. On a big screen — anywhere from 72 inches up to around 200 inches, depending on your wall size — games look fantastic. For multiplayer party games, everyone enjoys a share of the giant display, making it perfect for family or friends’ game nights.

Portability and Design

The new gray travel pouch is compact yet spacious enough for the projector and accessories. It’s perfect for travel or family trips. And if you don’t have a projection screen, a smooth white wall still works great — the brightness and color remain strong.

Cons and Small Drawbacks

  • The mini tripod isn’t sturdy enough for angled or ceiling setups.
  • The power cable is short, so you might need an extension cord.
  • There’s a little motor noise and heat, but nothing distracting.

Accessories: Mini tripod, remote control (battery not included), power cable, HDMI cable, AV cables, manual.

Final Thoughts

After weeks of use, I can confidently say that the LUMOS RAY GEN 2 Smart Bundle is the best LUMOS projector variant in 2025. It’s bright, smart, easy to use, and truly made for families. The auto focus, auto correction, and vibrant picture quality make it a joy to use without the hassle of constant adjustments.

It’s ideal for family movie nights, gaming sessions, or hotel trips — truly a projector that fits both homebodies and travelers. If you’re looking for something compact yet powerful, this is absolutely a good buy for 2025.
