Mommy Blogger of the Month – February

For our Mommy Blogger of the Month in the month of February, let’s meet Rikka Angela Redrico of Rikx Knows Best. Know her a little bit more by reading through our previous mommy Blogger of the month (January) Camille Duque Aguila‘s interview with this young and beautiful mom of her equally pretty daughter Nini.

RikkaCamille: I was thrilled to be Mommy Bloggers Philippines’ (MBP) Blogger of the month; it’s an opportunity unlike any other. To be featured for a whole month is one of the best things a blogger like me could ever wish for. It’s amazing how women can empower others to continue doing what they love and to pursue the dreams they have long kept in their hearts.

It was Rikka of Rikx Knows Best who interviewed and written the article for my feature. She’s new to the blogosphere but I admire how she has made her way to the sea of blogs and articles floating around the web. Not just that but her blogging actually led her to a new career that helps both her family and herself, personally. She is also a contributor to a community of kitchen gods and goddesses called Cookbook Manila.

Aside from blog visits, Rikka has become an online friend to me. Maybe it started from MBP community, maybe from blog visits, maybe from her interview for the article, maybe..oh well, what the heck. We are virtual friends, read: haven’t met her in person, and it’s a good thing.

Without further ado, I give you Rikka of Rikx Knows Best, February’s Blogger of the Month. *insert happy song and confetti shower here*

Tell us a little something about yourself and your family.
I’m a young mother of a two-year old bubbly and beautiful daughter named after her Father, Nico. I’m a woman who loves punk-rock music, taking photos, have passion for cooking and someone who extremely loves singing. I used to have a band before and I was the lead vocalist. I’ve met my husband 4 years ago, he was my drummer and the magic of love started because of our love for music. Then, our beautiful daughter came in our lives earlier than expected. Well, I wasn’t able to finish school but hopefully in the future, I can.

Now, I’m a hands-on and work-at-home-mom for Manila Workshops as an Associate Events Director and a mommy blogger. I’m still thirsty for adventures and opportunities! *chuckles*

What is one word to describe you and why?
Adventurous. Yes, I extremely love travelling and discover new adventures in various places I’ve never been to. I’m more of an outdoor person actually.

How long have you been blogging and what urged you to start?
To be honest with you, I’ve started blogging since I was in High school. It was a personal tumblr account, full of teenage ‘angst’ and reblogged photos of food and adorable photos that amuses me. Then, I decided to run my own food blog named Cookbook Manila but got tired of the idea and ta-da! Started my own parenting blog last year.

Why did you choose the name Rikx Knows Best?
Actually, I had a hard time choosing my blog name. I wanted it to be unique and catchy. Then, my future brother-in-law gave me this idea!

What do you think makes your blog stand out from other mommy blogs out there?
First and foremost, I believe that ALL mommy bloggers have their own style, ideas and content for their readers. As for me, I effortlessly bring out the best in me and what I write. Truth be told, I’m a novice mommy blogger and a First-time parent. I would love to learn more things to be an awesome blogger.

How did you find MBP and how is it helping you in your blogging journey?
I discovered MBP through Facebook groups and requested to be part of it. MBP have helped me reach great stats and visitors for my blog. Also, I’ve gained awesome mommy friends! They have helped me for both my bloggy and motherly needs!

Who are your pegs when it comes to blogging?
Haha! Pegs? Hmm… I have tons of bloggers who I look up to. My favorite reads are Fat Mum Slim, Bleubird, Mom On Duty by Kim, Make It Blissful by Martine, Mommy Ginger by Ginger and Mommy Friday.

What are your plans for your blog?
For now, I’m enjoying what my blog is having. Of course, I would really love to witness my blog’s success but it’s too early to foretell what RKB’s future is.

Does your family know you blog? How do they support you?
Of course they do. Especially my sister-in-law, ahaha! She helps me with new ideas and whenever we dine in on our favourite restaurant, she’ll take photos for me. My husband does the graphic magic sometimes, hihi.

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
Hmm… When my readers and friends love what I’ve posted. It’s the best feeling ever whenever you see positive comments and feedback. You know you did a great job! *winks*

Give our readers 3 tips in blogging.

1.    Be yourself. – Make your own branding. It’s good to get ideas from others but always make sure that you’ll make your own signature and writing style. Don’t be afraid to try out your own design, template, categories and unique blog – series. Readers would know how you write and most of your stories. Stop living on other else’s shoes! Remember, you were born to stand out in the crowd, not to fit in. It’s your blog anyway, why not create your own masterpiece? Remember, don’t fit in. You were born to stand out.

2.    Write from the heart. – Words are just words but it would be wholly meaningful if you’ll write what your heart tells you. Also, things would matter if you’ll write what you love. Readers would feel the emotion of the content.

3.    Always create and share memories. – Make it a habit to share your cute and awesome adventures on your blog. May it be what you’ve eaten in a practical restaurant, latest movie you’ve watched or recent photo captured. What matters most is the special connection between you and your readers. Feels like you’ve written that specific post for them.
