Okalani and Teal – A children’s book with heart

Posted on by

Our children will hear a lot of different messages as they grow up; who they should be, what they should do and what they should look like. These messages can quite often be limiting and deter our children from seeing themselves as someone who is actually very capable and as someone with a lot of worth!

New author Kirsty Black has published a children’s picture book Okalani and Teal as a tool for parents to use to influence their children with a positive message and to help build self-esteem. The story is based around two main characters; Teal the turtle and Okalani the oyster. After facing his fears of being different, Teal goes on a mission around the ocean to find creatures like him who are feeling the way he once felt – different and alone. Teal comes across Okalani who refuses to come out of her shell until she is encouraged and taught that she is unique and special, which is when she feels confident enough to reveal her own gifts to the world!

Through the story, children pick up messages of hope, that they are unique and that they should be proud of who they are! The book also hopes to show that lifting others up, also elevates yourself. Children easily absorb messages and start practicing them right away, which is why the messages within Okalani and Teal are positive and encouraging, especially to young minds!

Children from the age of 0-7 can learn through Okalani and Teal and also have fun as the book is filled with lots of cute and colourful illustrations, drawn by Richard Gomer Vivas, a talented illustrator from the Philippines who helped design characters children can relate to as they listen to the story being read.

If you would like to purchase Okalani and Teal, it can be ordered through Amazon worldwide: (http://www.amazon.com/Okalani-Teal-Kirsty-Black/dp/1526200562/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455631528&sr=8-1&keywords=okalani+and+teal)
